Discovering the Classics: Three Men in a Boat

Audiobook Listening Evening | Jerome K. Jerome

Some stories never grow old. They travel through generations, inspire films, spark conversations, and become part of our shared culture. But how many of these timeless stories do we actually know?

With our new series Discovering the Classics, Cozy Place invites you to explore (or rediscover!) the wonderful world of classic literature together.

Through a series of cozy evenings, we'll experience famous stories in different ways — watching classic film adaptations, listening to audiobooks, reading selected passages, and simply enjoying good stories in great company.

No homework, no literary expertise, and absolutely no need to have read the book beforehand!

It's all about curiosity, discovering something new, and enjoying the magic of storytelling together.

Our Next Evening: Three Men in a Boat

This time, we're travelling to Victorian England to discover the wonderfully witty world of Jerome K. Jerome and his most famous novel, Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog).

First published in 1889, this beloved British classic follows three friends (and a dog!) on a boating holiday along the River Thames. What begins as a simple escape from everyday life quickly turns into a hilarious adventure filled with unexpected mishaps, amusing observations, and the timeless absurdities of human nature.

More than 130 years later, Jerome's humour remains remarkably fresh. His playful reflections on friendship, travel, and the little frustrations of life remind us that, despite everything that has changed, people haven't changed all that much!

A Different Way to Experience a Classic

For our second evening, we're putting the screen aside and rediscovering one of the oldest pleasures of storytelling — listening to a story together.

We'll begin with a short introduction to Jerome K. Jerome, his life, and the fascinating story behind his famous book.

Then, we'll make ourselves comfortable with a warm drink and listen together to selected chapters from Three Men in a Boat.

Afterwards, everyone is welcome to join a relaxed conversation about the story, British humour, and the moments that made us smile.

Whether you've read the book, heard of Jerome K. Jerome, or are discovering him for the very first time — this evening is for you!

Great stories are even better when shared.
